  1. I tried to use TMPGEnc MPEG Tool convert my XSVCD to VCD so I could play it with my Sony DVD player. But I failed.....could anyone help me : My XSVCD:
720x480, max bitrate 5200, min bitrate 1734, avg bitrate 3500, Audio bitrate 224.

Any help would be very aprreciated!

  2. I'm not sure what model of Sony you have but mine supposedly tops out at 2,500. All you have to do is burn it as a non-compliant VCD and it should work. However, with those resolutions and bitrate they may not work with your player.

Then again its 2:00 a.m. and I am tired.

My Sony DVD Player is DVP-S500D. I used TMPGEnc encoded my avi file to 1950 bit templete SVCD and than convert it to VCD but it still didn't work. I previewed this vcd file with media player on my computer, the background song was played ok except no pictures displayed. Any ideal?

    Appreciate for your help!

  4. Yes, your player has the same specs as mine. It seems the higher the bitrate I go on my SVCDs the worse they look. I have to demux and remux all of my SVCDs (as non-compliant VCDs) then burn as a non-compliant VCD with NERO in order for them to play correctly on my player.

I have pretty much decided to stick with XVCDs (MPEG-s), using CBR 1700-1800. This way I can get a nice looking video on two disks.

I use Pinoy's SVCD template and it works pretty well with the exception of the remux, demux horsecrap.

I'm a newbie. Would you please share with me some of the details necessary for converting SVCD to VCD? Just now, I used TMPGEnc to encode my avi file to a new SVCD: 720x480, CQ 2500, audio 44100,224. It turned out to be very good quality. I used MPEG Tool to simple multiplex (or de-mul and mul again) it to MPEG1 VCD( note:not no-standard) but I got the same result that I couldn'y play it with my media player. What did I do differently from your method? Have you ever tried use TMPGEnc SVCD template? Please help me! Also, I will try Pinoy's SVCD later. Thank you very much!

I am still very wet behind the ears when it comes to this subject. I just search the boards up and down for solutions to my problems. Believe me I have many problems, but seem to be dwindling as time goes by.

You may want change your resolution to 480X480 as that is the standard SVCD resolution. You may want to use Vdub to extract the audio first then encode them together under a standard SVCD template.

Like I said, I think I know of only a few people on this board who have to demux and then multiplex (as non-compliant VCD). I got the idea from (Antonio). Then burn as a non-compliant VCD under NERO. Trust me this is the only freaking way I can get higher bitrate projects (SVCDs MPEG2) to work correctly.

The new 2.52 plus as a nice and easy SVCD template thats 2520 CBR, but you only get 35 minutes to a CD.

    Try this first:

    Here are the steps.

    1. Open your file in VirtualDub.
    2. Select Audio -> Full Processing Mode
    3. Select Audio -> Conversion
    4. Choose Sampling Rate (Whatever you like. i.e. For a VCD-Compliant Audio stream then choose Sampling Rate as 44100, Precision as 16 Bit, Channels as Stereo).
    5. Select File -> Save as WAV

Then open TMPG and load the video and audio separate and choose a standard SVCD template. If thats what you want ,otherwise try a standard VCD (352x240) and raise your bitrate to say 1800 and see what it looks like. You don't have to encode the entire movie. Just go to advanced and select source and choose your length.

I don't know the reason but certain SVCDs (MPEG 2) will not play on my media player either. I use power dvd xp. But if go through the above mentioned process and mux as a non-compliant vcd, you will be able to play it on media player.

Thanks for your very detailed instructions. I'm using SVCD templete in TMPGEnc now so it will be easy for me to follow your direction to see what will happen. I never used the toolame and hadn't found the sscr. What's the sscr for? My audio is already wav in my avi file. Should I just use VirtulDub for video? Anyway, I'll try that soon and let you know the outcome.

Thanks very much for your help again!

Thanks for your help! I followed your instructions and already made my vcd(svcd) work on my dvd player now, but I have a new problem that my vcd pictures just displayed a part of the original pictures. My svcd is 720x480 size, how could i get the whole pictures display correctly?
    Apprecieate your time!
