  1. I am looking for a program (preferably FREE) that will convert jpg's to video (avi, wmv, mpg) but require a couple of special needs.
The jpg's will be created in PowerPoint.
The WMV feature of Powerpoint works except that there is no duration control (point 1 below).
Windows Movie Maker does not provide individual durations.
This program will be used to create a info video on a tv at the entrance to our library.

    1) must be able to change the individual duration of one (or more) of the jpg slides.
    2) should be easy for a non-techie to use.
    3) don't care much about transitions other than for them to be simple or even no transition.
    4) no audio will be used.

    Suggestions gratefully accepted ... thanks

  2. Windows Movie Maker does allow for individual durations....just use the 'Timeline' in 'View' instead of 'Storyboard'. Drag your photos/info-slides into the media section and arrange on the timeline as you wish. When on the timeline, each photo can have its duration altered as you please by dragging the images right hand edge and can be any length of time you require.

The actual time/duration of the 'slide' will be displayed in a tooltip box as you drag. Use the zoom symbols for fine tuning.

Remember to save as a Project and to always keep your images/slides in the same folder.

Once you have assembled them in the order you require render as a movie.

    P.s.

You can still add Transitions and Effects from the 'Tools' menu to spice it up.
Just drag 'em in once your durations are finalised.

  3. Wow .... thanks transporterfan for the tip. My version 2011 build 15.4.xxx does not quite work the way you describe at least from what I can see BUT I found that by selecting the key slide and going to Video Tools>>edit ... I CAN change each slide duration from a drop down box. This might work very well for us and we will give it a try.

If anyone else has any other program suggestions ... I'm still all ears....

    thanks again... Ron...

  4. Your welcome.

I'll have to take your word for it as I have version 6.xxx, 2007 build.

I don't use it anymore, preferring Corel VideoStudio, but the learning curve is a bit steep for those not familiar with video editors.

Not tried but this looks promising also:
