I've noticed that in using DVDLab Pro (I don't know if it's 1 or 2 - it's on another computer) and TMPGEnc Authoring Works, I've noticed that when you use the chapter menu templates, it takes the chapter screencap from the first frame of the chapter so for the first chapter or chapters that begin with a fade in or against a dark background, you get a black screen.
Is there any way in either of those two programs to set the timing where a chapter screen cap will be made or do you have to make the cap yourself, resize it and replace the one that is automatically created and link it to the chapter?

I am not sure about Authoring Works, but in DVD Lab, you can move chapter point created automatically by advancing frames. This is possible after you do frame indexing on your movie (green diamond above chapter point), than you can use + or - icon on the side to move chapter point.

It's a long time since I've used it but I vaguely remember there was a way to choose which frame was used as the thumbnail pic in TMPGEnc DVD Author but not in DLP2 Pro.

In TAW you can use for thumbnail any frame taken from timeline in settings window (or use animated clip) or replace it with any still picture (file browser button) with different proportions, change type of highlighting (e.g. just highlight borders instead of whole thumbnail by default) and use numerous effects (as with any object in menu page).
