  1. More and more I am having customers bring in CDs and DVDs made in UDF format and unfortunatley my two kiosks are unable to read them, as the machines run on W2k (actually my whole shop runs on W2K).

When possible I take them to a a PC in the back room and copy the files off using Isobuster, but this is becoming a hassle for me and the customers.

I have the UDF reader installed on all the machines but no dice. Is there another reading program that would work with w2k? If I upgrade the two kiosks to XP or XP pro will that solve the problem?

    Thanks.

  2. Thanks Baldrick. I've tried both the Adaptec and the Roxio (maybe they are the same thing??) and no luck with either

I don't know about currently, but all of the early versions of the format weren't compatible with each other. Even when using different versions of the same brand. So it doesn't surprise me that you are having issues. You may be better served in the long run by teaching your customers how to burn in a more compatible format.

From your lips to God's ears
With one of my customer's it's a running joke, as I have even sent burnaware back with her as well as copies of how to properly eject a disk from Micrsofts website and her still won't do it any way but his.

In talking with my customer's most of them are using Windows XP to make the disk and the disk via drag and drop an then they use the eject button on the drive to remove it. Some are doing the same using Vista and other's state at me blankly and blink (sometiems I think I can hear them saying 'Norman, Coordinate').

Des - Have you tried installing the program we have here called (wait for it):
    UDF reader
I don't know about the stuff you have installed, but others have reported good success with this particular program.

I can tell you that XP does not come with drivers for any UDF version above 2.01. With Win2K, it might only support UDF below 2.00. I was able to get UDF 2.50 support on my XP box by installing some Toshiba drivers I found a couple of years ago, but I'd have installed UDF reader if it was available at the time (it wasn't).

Win2K is getting increasingly obsolete and Microsoft doesn't even fix certain security problems with it any more. I'd advise looking into moving to XP at least if you can. Going to XP could buy you a few more years.

  6. Hey Jman98, what a strange and obscure title for a piece of software that does what it needs to do
Oddly, I had never noticed it in the tool section before, but it did the trick! Thankyou, thank you, thank you.

I checked it out with a UDF disk made on Vista and it worked.

I do need to upgrade the kiosks to XP at least but have been holding off. The hardware will support it and supposedly the software will too, but the company that publishes the software has extremely slow customer service, o I worry that I might be down if there is an iisue. The contract with them is up this year and I am hoping to jump ship to someone else by summer.
Sometimes these companies include hardware sometimes not. I am looking for reliability and seemless integration.

    Thanks again!

I should know better. I feel bad

Like my Grand Mother used to say," Sometimes what you need is right at home." Of course I think she stole that line from somewhere.
