  1. Can anyone recommend a free program that rips / converts the audio from a DVD to either .wav or .mp3 files?
I have done the usual searching but only found some shareware programs that are designed to do mostly other stuff that I'm not interested in. Thanks.

Thanks. I tried different versions of this program. Unfortunately they either crash, or won't install with Win98.

If you are still using Win98, I respectfully suggest you seriously consider upgrading. You are going to face a lot of disappointment and frustration in video/audio editing with modern formats trying to use DOS based OS.

If you're still using Win 98 I'd suggest you populate your 'Computer Details' section...

    With Win98 use:
VOBEdit to extract (demux) audio from DVD. It will be in AC3 format.

To convert AC3 to WAV use:
    - PX3Convert AC3toWAV which you can download here: http://www.digital-digest.com/software/download.php?sid=12&ssid=0&did=1

    - or BeSweet which will convert AC3 in any other audio format.

    - or HeadAC3he.

Those are all little freeware tools easy to use.

I didn't think of it at the time since about a dozen or so other DVD processing programs I am using work fine under Win98.
But you are right -- in 2009, running Win98 should be mentioned when making any inquiries, so I apologize!
