I use Adobe Premier (AP) for most video compilation works. I don't find any direct AVI split in AP. The only way to do this is to mark IN and OUT and AP actually creates a new AVI file by rendering... I don't know if this would bring down the video quality in the new "split and saved" video.

I have used EZ-Splitter before. But I have the same concern...

    My questions:

    1. Do I lose video quality by AP's re-rendering / EZ-Splitter process?

    2. Is there any software which splits and saves WITHOUT loss of quality?

    Thanks.

Some AVI type formats like Divx/Xvid only have keyframes (I frames) every 300 frames or so. If you split or cut anywhere but a keyframe, that section will need to be re-encoded to prevent sync errors and video problems. If AP is doing that, then it's correct. But it shouldn't need to re-encode if the split/cut is on a keyframe. DV-AVI is all keyframes, so it can be easily split/cut anywhere.

I use VirtualDub with the 'smart render' option to do cuts or splits in AVI type formats. It only re-encodes at the cut point, not the whole file.
