I thought AVI_IO captures video using Firewire port???

I was happy with VirtualDub capturing tv programs, however, it doesnt work when I try to capture video from my digital camera using firewire port.

Someone said AVI_IO works but it doesnt. It works the same as VirtualDub. Are these findings correct?

I am using WindowsXP.
