I have avi which is 608 by 336. I need to resize so it will fill a monitor screen and not have black bars. I don't mind losing part of the image, I dont want to reencode just crop to 4:3 or something. The video needs to play back on a Mac and I would like the picture to fill the screen.

Any wise videoehelp members able to help?
    Peace

You must reconvert when you crop or resize video. Use for example virtualdub or avidemux and crop to 448x336(4:3). In virtualdub under video->filters add the null transform filter and then click on cropping. In avidemux under Filters->Crop.

Thanks Baldrick, youv'e helped me many times in the past. I'm using virtualdub I want the video in black and white should I just add the greyscale filter as well?

In virtualdub under the cropping I have a number of boxes x1 offset and y offset and so on. Which boxes do I make the changes to?

I just looked at a post you made that says basic cutting and joining can be done in tmpgenc. I would like to edit from the original video_ts folder and then convert to avi or maybe just author a dvd. What I was doing was encoding the video_ts to avi then cutting up in virtualdub ready for editing together in windows movie maker or maybe final cut pro. This means exrtra encoding.
How can I save the pieces I cut in tmpgenc?

Thanks for the help Baldrick. The original file was 608 by 336 and I needed 448 by 336 (4:3) so i cropped 80 from either side in the x1 and x2 axis. Now I have 4:3 video.

    Thanks again

    Peace.

You may want to try MPEG4 Modifier for aspect ratio changes, and more, without re-encoding. Not sure what video format is in your AVI, but it's been recommended a few times over at the DivX forums, such as further down in this thread, if you want more info:
