I have a Daewoo dvd player, (I think it is a dvds150) which used to play everything I threw at it (all dvd+rw, dvd-rw, dvd+r, dvd-r, all regions, etc.) but now plays only Region 1 discs.
I checked around and there is no firmware update available.
My question is this:
Is it possible to simply open the player and replace the dvd drive with another dvd-rom drive which I know plays all discs and regions?
Thanks
John

Possibly. You can open it up and see if it uses a standard DVD ROM, but I wouldn't bet on it. And the new drive would still be region limited. It would probably be easier to replace the whole player with one of the inexpensive Philips units that can also play Divx. Probably only $10 - $20 more than a DVD ROM drive. You can unlock the region on some Philips units.
And welcome to our forums. -
I'd just go buy a Philips or Magnavox DVD player from Walmart or Target. They are routinely in the $30-60 range. You'd pay more for a DVD-ROM drive. The Philips unit would play everything your old one did, plus DIVX/XVID, and some other stuff.
