I have analog and digital 8 mm tapes that I would like to convert to DVD. I transferred one analog tape to DVD by using my DCR-TRV460 and dvd write disc on my computer. I connected the digital output from my camcorder to the USB port of the computer. The video/audio editing software (Intervideo WinDVD) that came with my computer was used. I used standard bit rate (2 Hrs. of DVD use) when choosing an option for recording. Once I had the finished DVD, I compared its video quality to that of a VHS tape that had the same video recorded on to it from a VCR. The quality of the VCR tape is better than the DVD. Am I to expect noticable loss in quality when recording to a DVD? I read someone's post in a Forum somewhere that stated the video quality of the digital output from the DCR-TRV460 is not very good. Is this true? Am I better off using its analog output straight to a DVD recorder, like I used when recording to the VCR? Or is the real quality loss ocurring during the video editing and burning to DVD?

see if you can use the dv port(firewire) to transfer the video. windv may recognize the cam when hooked up through firewire to the computer and you should be able to capture as DVavi.
