  1. I'm looking for a DVD player that has Firewire (IEEE 1394, i.LINK) output. This will feed into my Canopus video editor to edit family videos.

    Thanks!

  2. If these are family videos on DVD already, why not just copy the vob files from the DVD directly to the PC? Am I missing something?

  3. It's video from a family reunion. I want to re-edit. My cousin think he's a professional video edit but the video make me sea sick!

BTW, I found what I'm looking for. It's a Denon DVD-2910. I'll have to get it on eBay. Has lot's of great reviews because of its extremely high quality.

    Thanks all!

  4. Are you sure about that model? Out of curiosity, I looked up the product manual ( http://www.usa.denon.com/DVD2910_ownersmanual.pdf ) and there's no mention at all of FireWire/iLink/DV.

The list price is $749 (expected for Denon).

I agree with dun4cheap - just use the vob files. Alternatively, if you really want DV format in a hurry, connect the analog outputs of any DVD player to your Canopus' analog inputs. (BTW, if you did have a DVD player with DV out, you'd connect it directly to your PC - the Canopus would be unnecessary). Going the analog route really won't cause any noticeable reduction in quality.

  5. You made me re-think what I typed last night and went back to Denon's web site to check. Here's their link (http://usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/228.asp).

If anyone has a little more money, they can buy the DVD-5910CI (http://usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/3127.asp).

    Here's yet another one. The DVM-2845CE has a 5 DVD changer. (http://usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/3420.asp).

I tried the DVD2AVI route but the audio came up short a few frames every couple of minutes.

  9. Thanks to all who replied.

I knew that the technological evolution (or is that revolution) wouldn't let me down. It seems that I have discovered HDMI capture cards that record the digital output of my HD DVD/VCR.

The question is which one of the two capture cards do I want? The HDSTORM to replace my DVRex or the Intensity from Blackmagic Design?

This will now allow me to edit my family movies recorded on miniDVD without running through the software conversion hoops.

I am now entertaining the idea of buying a Sony HD camcorder with a 120GB hard drive. I can output my raw video through the HDMI port directly into the capture card.

I'll let you all know what my choice turned out to be in a month or two.
