  1. I have just found some rare VHS tapes and wanted to do the usual converstion but rather than using my tradional ADVC-50 via TBC (which is currently not set up) I attached my JVC HR-S7965 directly to a DVD Recorder for the conversion.

All the tapes are playing back with a slight issue which I just wanted conformation of what it might be (plus I hope I have the correct forum).

On black-screen or on darker scenes there is a slightly visible column that travels from right to left. When one column reaches the left of the screen another one starts its journey. Generally, this isn't a problem but one of the tapes I have is a concert and most of the time the picture is quite dark.

Is this a tracking issue? If so, what can I do about it. It makes no difference if the digi-pure is on or off. But I will admit that it has been an age since I have used the JVC so it took me a while to familiarise myself with it again.

    Any help appreciated.

Might be a bad power supply in the VCR. Do ALL tapes play with the black bar on that VCR.

  3. Yes they do; but now you mention it I do have the VCR plugged into an extension lead and it is also sat directly on top of the DVD Recorder and a portable 14" CRT directly above (on the next shelf up).

Come to think of it, in my last house (the last time I used the JVC) it was away from any other electrical applicances (or ones that were switched on) and in the wall socket then.

I will make some changes and see if that helps.
