Despite finding a LOT of notes about converting the MPEG files recorded with a Hauppauge 1600 into other formats, I remain profoundly confused. Many of the notes appear to be out-of-date or to represent early experimental attempts to achieve successful conversion. Is there a successful method, using current software tools, to fix the MPEG files captured using WinTV and to convert them to files usable for a standard DVD?

The easiest method of all is to just capture in standard definition and work with that, but if you have a lot of time on your hands and insist on convert HD captures, I have 2 suggestions.

 1) I've never used this option, but HCEnc has an option during re-encoding to produce DVD compliant output. You could put have it re-encode your captures to DVD, but again, I've never used this option in it.
 2) The program HDTV2DVD was free and may still be and supposedly could convert HD TV captures to DVD.
