  1. Hi !

    How do you guys go about resizing your video before you encode with CCE2.62?

    I used to use an AVISynth script with CCE2.50 but now I have to use v2.62 (2.50 has lower bitrate padding problems and my dv444 doesn't like them!)

    Seeing as I use DVD2AVI to create a .d2v file,
    anybody know of a way to use AVISynth functions (like 'BicubicResize') with CCE2.62 ??

    Any help would be much appreciated.

  2. Ah, the 'search' is back online!!

    Just seen someone mention using VFAPI-convertor 1.03b because this version will accept a .vdr frameserve from VirtualDub and turn it into a 'fake' AVI.

    Anyone know where I can download this version? ..... I've only got 1.04b and I NEED 1.03b !!!

    HELP ..... Anybody?

    You really do come to my rescue far too often!!!!

    Anywayz, back to the plot ..........

    So, AVISynth -- .avs into -- VFAPIconv1.03b -- 'fake' .avi into -- CCE2.62 then??!!??
    Wow, that will save me a lot of hassle!

    Why did Hoki take this functionallity out then for 1.04b ? Seems a bit mad really.

  5. OK ...... I'm back!

    I tried an .avs script into VFAPI1.03b and the output 'fake' AVI is of terrible quality.
    Every frame looks like a low-quality jpeg!!

    So then I tried the .avi into VDub frameserve to VFAPI1.03b and all is great ..... well almost.
    CCE2.62's encoding speed is drastically reduced, no doubt because of the different processes involved in getting the video into CCE.
    A straight AVI conversion runs at around 1.2-1.5 fps,
    but with the VDub framserve that's cut to around 0.8 - grrrrrrr

    I went back to 2.50 to see if I could get rid of the low bitrate problem but was unsuccessful - I can't seem to stop the bitrate falling to around 150bps in blackouts (which my DV444 objects to very strongly!!)
    It seems strange that such an expensive bit of software has such a fundamental problem, d'ya think?

    Let me know if you've got any thoughts ......

    That might be the reason why Hoki did take this functionallity out then for 1.04b.

    Well, encoding speed is much slower if you use VFAPI or VirtualDub, because both work with RGB colours only, while CCE converts back to YUV.

    CCE is a very good MPEG-2 encoder, but at least v SP 2.50 is quite buggy and definitely not worth the 2000 US$. But there is probably a chance. First create a .vaf file, do a 1passVBR at similar settings. Then open the project again and press the "advanced" button. Search for no motion scenes or frames where the bitrate is too low. Change the minimum local bitrate. Of course it does effect your bitrate calculation.

    Just because I haven't got CCE in front of me right now, do I have to select the range on the 'graph' display in order to adjust the 'local bitrate'?

    After you encoded the first pass, open the .mpv in BitrateViewer to watch out for very low bitrates, that the player can not handle. Write the time down.



    Open the project in CCE again. Press the "advanced" button. Use the "jump" buttons [1] to find the low bitrate scenes. Then press "set in" [2]. Press +GOP [1] to find the end of the low bitrate scene. Press "set out" [3]. Set the locac minimum bitrate to a higher value [4]. Press SET [5].
    Jump to the next low bitrate scene and repeat. After that press "close" and start encoding.

  9. On your Vdub frameserve, did you check Direct Stream Copy? - dramatically faster and I believe this avoids the YUV conversion thing.

  10. You can use Xmpeg Frame serving to CCE 2.62 with Premiere Video Server Plugin v0.93 which support YUY2 without converting to RGB. It works fine for me.
