  1. Hello:
    I hope somone can help me with this.
    I have these videos that supposedly are in .mpg format but when I open them in windows media player it says that the file has an .mpg extension that doesn't coincide with the file format, then I used GSpot to find out what codec was needed and it tells me that the file is ASF (WMV/WMA), now, the question is how do I correct this? do I have to re-encode it or convert it with some program?

  2. codec need to play (wmv/wma) try diff player.
    you wont convert if you cant decode first.

    Do the videos play if you rename the extension from .mpg to .wmv? Windows Media Player should be able to play those correctly.

    Never heard of WMP ever reading a video and mentioning the format doesn't match the extension, though.
    If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

  4. Anyone can rename a file with any extension they want. If Gspot tells you the container is ASF then that's what it is. Rename it .ASF or .WMV.
