I took a video during a loud event. Unfortunatly I was blocking the microphone with my finger, and the sound is muffeled. Also the bass is overwhelming. It is in stereo, and sound is heard, but unbalanced. I can convert the videos sound practically to any format to edit, and clean it up. What software will fix these sound issues??

You could try the high/low pass filters in audacity...
It fixed some of my stuff when the auto wind-screen kicked in during a light breeze...

    Greets,

Were you blocking just one mic channel or both with your finger? Hard to tell by the way you explained things. If just one - then you can duplicate the unblocked, unmuffled channel over to the other. Erasing the muffled one. Unfortunetly, this will give you mono sound on both channels.

Being in the audience with inbuild stereo camera mics you are not going to get the greatest channel seperation anyway. To me, one clear mono track sounds better then a muffled up, unbalanced stereo track. Especially for a hand-held scenario.

Sony Soundforge, Majix Audio Cleaning Lab, Blaze Media Pro are just a few names off the top of my head for programs. Been a while since I worked with cleaning up audio. Others here may be able to suggest better choices.

    Cheers,
    Rick

    Hi Rick,

The sound is all over the place. The mics are so close together that one opening is next to another. Its on a new digital camera that I bought a day earlyer still foregn to the layout. Video is in HDV, and I am amazingly impressed with video, sound ruins it. I will try making a mono, but is there a way where I can average out the two channels, and normalize the channel to be consistant in sound and clarity output? I know I am asking for much, but I know software these days does miracles
    Thank you for your time!
    Robert

If you want to get your feet wet in audio signal processing, try Audacity. Powerful, lots of filters available and free.

Problem is, if you sent too much sound into the built-in mic, removing the distortion in post with an audio app is next to impossible. You can reduce it, but it probably won't sound acceptable. And that digital distortion is so unpleasing to the ears.

Post some of the audio here. Make it < 6MB in size.
