Hi, Simple request im looking for the best tool to cut mpeg2 files, im especially looking for one that will minimise losses and the cut points of the clips.
I have tryed TmpgEnc mpeg Editor 2, and mpeg2cut2 , they are both great tools but i find they are sometimes incosistant arround cut points and with the editing im doing its very important to keep these areas as loss free as possible.
Maybe im not using the correct version of tmpgEnc as so many people highly recomend this product. But i hope to try a few more, usally get some interesting tools recomended on this board

    Thankyou in advance

That's the nature of most any compressed video format. Generally editors will only let you cut on a I frame (keyframe} and that may not be exactly where you want to make your cut. Anywhere else, the editor will need to re-encode the cut ends. Formats like Xvid or Divx are even worse, with keyframes spaced about 300 frames apart by default. Formats like DV-AVI have each frame as a keyframe, so frame accurate cutting is easy.

If you drop a MPEG into VirtualDub Mod and use the keyframe button, you can see the distance between the keyframes. Or Gspot will show you the I,P,B arrangement. Only the I frame is a complete frame. The P and B frames aren't.

TMPGEnc is a great encoder program, but not a great editor, IMO. I'd try the other programs mentioned.
