    Hi!
Im a newbie in this DVD editing subject, so my question is pretty basic.

Im converting my Hi 8mm tapes to DVD using an old Samsung DVD Recorder.

I would like to know if VOBBLANKER is a good software as far as cutting parts of the Vobs that I dont want included, like blue screens and etc. I want a software that DOESNT re-encode the video, and so the image quality remais the same. I tried TMPGEnc and it did mess up with the video quality, and it took much more time to use than VobBlanker.

Anyone could please answer this question??

If VobBlanker happens to reencode when it process the files, and mess up video quality, could someone please suggest me a good simple software to edit vob files without reencoding?

    THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you try to edit VOB, it will have to be re encoded.
The best way is to edit raw footage first before exporting to DVD format.
Since you are using DVD recorder, than this is out of the question.
You can try Mpeg Video Wizard DVD, it will let you do cuts to VOB and re encode only parts that are cut, if the rest is DVD compliant.

Oh God, that is bad news.........

So it means that when VobBlanker is doing all that processing, it is RE-Encoding the whole video, right??

So my impression that im getting loss of quality is not just an impression...

The only option would be to find a way to record EXACTLY what i want on the DVD, using various pause+record manual techniques, right??

With DGIndex you can cut part of the vob before demuxing, Then I use Muxman to re-mux to a new vob
    Easy, fast and free

You could try VideoRedo or Womble Mpeg Video Wizard.

  6. VobBlanker cuts without reencoding. Anyone who says differently is incorrect. Here's a guide:

    http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/guides/VobBlanker/prevcut/index.php

You just hit the Prev/Cut button and move the slider. Mark the in and out points and make sure that you choose the correct of either "Cut" or "Keep" between those points. Or hit the Cells button and make the cut(s) by choosing which cell(s) to cut in the new screen.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind. You can make only one set of cuts in each cell; if you want more you'll have to process the first before doing the second. And after making the cuts you'll have to process; it's not automatic. Nothing is reencoded. What you get back hasn't been tampered with.
