Hello video geeks (in a good way ofc)!

I need a script or something for joining several (often 30-50) avi files to a big one, preferably untouched. Now I use VirtualDub and do it by hand ("Append AVI segment..."), and its a pain in the ass. Is it possible to make a script for it? I've looked a bit in the scripting language reference without any luck. Can someone put me in the right direction, or maybe write me a script? They all are in one directory and should be sorted by name (but i can rename them to 01.avi 02.avi etc if thats easier).

It does not have to be VirtualDub if there are any other free software that can handle it. Maybe AviSynth?

    Thank you for any answers.

(Equal width, height, fps etc - from the same source)

You don't need a script when using VirtualDub. Simply rename your avi files using the following convention: moviename, moviename1, moviename2, moviename3, etc. Open the first file (moviename) with VirtualDub, then append "moviename1" to it ... when you do, VirtualDub will automatically append the rest of the files in order for you, as long as they are compatible (same codec, frame size, audio type & bitrate, etc.).

You can also use a program like 'Better File Rename' or similar to rename the files sequentially to make this easier when you have a lot of files.

http://www.publicspace.net/windows/BetterFileRename/index.html There are freeware programs that work in a similar fashion, but BFR is still one of the best.

Yes, I'll move it. You can use the 'edit' function in your first post in this thread to change the title.
