laptop playing dvd problem

my laptop lags/pauses for 1-3 seconds every 40 minutes when l play dvd movies in it, what is the problem? l am using vista home basic

Have you checked the windows scheduler/antivirus tool/etc and see if something runs every 40 minute?

Playing them from the DVD drive? How much RAM do you have? One gigabyte of RAM is about minimal with Vista, two is better. Did the laptop come with Vista installed? What program are you using for playback?

I would take a look at your Task Manager and see how much CPU power and RAM it's using at the time of the problem. That may give you a clue. Also, if you are using a DVD disc, try ripping one to the hard drive and play back from there and see if that works better.

Don't a lot of laptops these days also used shared memory? That might also make working with Vista on a laptop fun, unless you do have 2GB of RAM.

l am running celeron m 2G with 2038mb ram, task manager says cpu is under 20% and ram under 1000 mb, ripping one to the hard drive just like pricacy, why bothering buying the disc?

and l am using compaq/hp dvdplay and window media player, and yes it comes with vista installed, and how to open windows scheduler?

I'm using a Compaq F750 lqptop with Vista Home Premium at present. But Scheduler is in 'Control Panels>Administrative Tools'. There is also a event viewer there.
