I just got a new HP nw8440 and for some reason whenever I'm trying to play any DVD on my laptop with the subtitle on, everytime the subtitle supposed to display, the screen switch into the root menu. When there's no subtitle (i.e. nobody speaking at the moment) then it shows the normal video again.

The same dvd plays fine in any other machine

I tried to install a couple codec pack but it still the same (ace mega codec pack, gordion knot)

I tried playing with WMP 10 and Intervideo WinDVD but both have the same problem

Try VLC Media Player, it has it own dvd decoding.

WMP is probably using WinDVD for dvd decoding so it will be similiar as using WinDVD.

If you have several dvd decoders you can use Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility , http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=DE1491AC-0AB6-4990-943D-627E6...displaylang=en , to change the default wmp dvd decoder.
