Hi all,
I'm using WMP11 to stream to my PS3, and I would say about 1/4 to 1/3 of my video files will not stream. They appear on the PS3, with a preview frame icon even, but the PS3 gives the "invalid format" error.
I've been searching around forever trying to find WHAT exactly the PS3 is being finicky about. I noticed the files that weren't working were all Divx3 Low-Motion, so I used AlltoAVI to transcode to Xvid, but STILL no luck. I'm using GSpot to detect file info, and I really don't know what else to look for / change in the transcode.
I can't believe this isn't all over the internet because it's such a selling point feature for the PS3!

if you're successfully streaming "1/4 to 1/3", I'd say you're doing pretty good...IMO,if you'd use a better tool than ALLtoAVI,perhaps your odds would improve....
Not one method is absolutely guaranteed to work 100%...
Try with XviD4PSP,using Xbox/PS3 format output....And obviously you haven't checked this forum lately,as there's been loads of discussion regarding, streaming content/specs to the PS3 and Xbox360 ...." Who needs Google, my wife knows everything" -
Thanks for the info, and yes I did check this forum and the conversion forum on this topic for the last several months before posting...did not find anything relevant.
The big question: so there is no consensus about specific xvid/divx file attributes that the PS3 will not play? -
You can also use TVersity as the server utility. It allows you to steam many more video file formats because it converts the files to a PS3 compatible flash format on the fly in the server. If you set up TVersity, be careful to read and follow the installation and setup instructions. TVersity uses some helper applications that must also be installed.
The other thing to check is that you have the latest PS3 firmware installed. The latest firmware supports more formats like Divx and Xvid. -
I use TVersity for streaming to my PS3 or Xbox...Having said that, keep in mind that not all xvid/divx files are created equal. There are many factors such as file size, video bitrate, audio bitrate, audio format, video resolution, etc, and so on that affect PS3 compatibility.
I'm surprised you missed all the PS3 threads as of late....
AFAIK, "the big question" is, what specific xvid/divx file attributes that the PS3 "will" play?
But read this.....good luck!
