  1. I've been looking for DVD player with probably customisible firmware so I can change the loading splash screen and possibly more.

I've researched it a fair bit and I've found old and hard to get hold of possibilities.

It seems a few years ago it was more of it.

Can anybody help me and suggest a model (keeping in mind I'm in the UK)?

    Thanks in advance.

(PS I know I posted a similar question last year but I was just hoping for fresh ideas. Thanks again)

You are asking this question YEARS too late. I am not exaggerating. aedipuss is correct. Years ago, like 5 years ago, there were some Chinese made DVD players that had hackable firmwares. Companies like Apex and Shinco come to mind. These players are long gone as are the companies. With very very few exceptions (you can count them on one hand probably) there simply isn't any standalone player firmware hacking done anymore. Years ago there were players that would let you do what you propose, but I haven't heard of any players in years where this was possible. Maybe you'll get lucky and someone will post about some player I don't know about that will let you do this, but I wouldn't count on it.

  4. You could Hack the older yamada players to have a different splash screen. I even went so far as to download all the tools to do it. And then......It was too limiting and too fiddly.. (not enough colours, weird sizes)

Oppo allows you to capture a custom background screen from any disc or file.

Players with mediatek chipsets still often have the possibility of loading custom Firmware. For instance Philips and Pioneer players. Check http://board.softpedia.com/index.php?s=d253b7e7ce7cf766562d2e5d6140c78f&showforum=24 for more info.
