Hi i wanted to make a backup of a movie and i used this link for help on making backup copies using dvdshrink http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/how_to_copy_dvd_with_dvd_shrink.cfm I did everything it said in this article (i only made a copy of the main movie with one subtitle) and i burned the movie. Now i can only playback the movie on my computer none of the dvd players in the house can read the dvd. What did i do wrong or how can i get it to playback to be able to watch on a tv dvd player?

Perhaps your standalone players don't like the media type...what media did you use,and at what speed did you burn it? Did you use Ner0 to burn it? I would try burning Shrinks output VIDEO_TS folder with IMGBurn instead....try it..

I do know that the maximum speed option was selected i do have nero on my computer but i don't know if thats what dvdshrink used to burn it. I burned it on a DVD+R.

My first post so Ill not ask for specific help until i've exhausted the search feature...now to the question at hand. If you shrink a movie it has to loose something in the process, I have 1 DVD player at home that may or may not play reburned movies. They jump around or dont play at all. It is obvious to me that all stand-alones are not created equal, and the same for burning software. This is of no help to you, but you may do as IM going to try and search the forum for answers to several questions I have that I am sure have been asked before......such as, will dvx play on stand alones MP2 MP4, where does a player get its sync signal from...is there a sinc sig? Which format plays most often on stand alone DVD players.....

Yep i got a lot of reading & catching up to do

Imgburn is by far the most reliable burning application for DVD Video. If you use Shrink properly then the movie should lose nothing but size, and at some point, quality.

There is no universal answer to playback of burned discs. All players are not created equal, and brand players have as many issues as no-name players. No player lasts forever, and no burner lasts forever. Just because a player or burner doesn't see constant use doesn't mean it won't give out over time anyway. There are many factors that can kill a sedentary player as easily as a busy one.

The biggest step you can take to reduce the number of issues playback issues is to find the right media for your burner. Start with the best quality you can get - TY or Verbatim would top the list - and slow work down the quality tree only if you absolutely must. Buying cheap media from the corner store costs you money in the long run as you burn coaster after coaster and re-burn discs that stop working after a few months.

Have you ever played any burned disc on your player? Have you tried your burn on a friend's player? If it's an older unit you may have better results with -R blanks.
