    G'day,

I've been trying to get some subs to show - been using all the info i can get from these forums but am still having problems. I've got a movie .avi and .srt subtitles Hopefully someone here can help me out!

    Here's the situation:

    * I've given the .srt file the same name as the movie and it works on the computer but not on the DVD player, so..

    * I started out using AviSub but on the resulting .divx file created - nothing appeared - not on the computer nor on the TV.

    * I read somewhere that some players "like" .srt while others, the .sub and .idx combo thing so i use Txt2Vobsub to create them and chucked them onto a disk together but still nothing

    * I then found sub2divx, used the vertical adjustment to 96 and selected PAL in the top left box (i'm in Australia). The subs appear on the computer but not on the TV. (althought its worth mentioning that the .avi info button in sub2divx says the file is NTSC - should i set it to NTSC to match the file or to match the TV/DVD player which are PAL?) Is there anything that i am doing wrong in this program thats causing the subs not to appear on the TV?

    * I've used DVDFlick, which is nice and all, but wants to convert the 700MB .avi i'm working with to a full blown DVD of greater than 2GB. This seems like a rediculous option. Perhaps the file size can be reduced, but i've yet to find that option.

Can anyone suggest anything i could try with these programs to get things going? Or even any alternative programs that would be useful? I've read that you can use AutoGK but that takes 3 hours while these take next to no time, so i'd rather try to find a quicker way.

BTW - i've got a PANASONIC DMR-ES35V VCR DVD combo player that does have the DivX logo & says "plays Divx 5, 4, 3, Divx VOD". I've heard that some players don't "like" divx subs - is this enough info to show that mine can play divx subs?

Phew! Thanks for your time guys!

When you made a .divx using avisub or the srt and avi and played on your dvd player did you try click on the subtitle button on your remote? Because the subtitles may not be enabled by default.

Turns out it was the subtitle button. Wasn't actually on the remote - had to access a bunch of menus to get it working.

    Thanks for your help!
