  1. I've had problems recently where every video I have converted to dvd format has been corrupted when I'm done. The video skips and pauses and appears to be scattered. I consistantly lose the last 10-20 minutes. I'm using VSO software ConvertxtoDVD.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Stop burning to rubbish cheap media.

Have ConvertxtoDVD write to a HDD folder instead of burning. Test play from your HDD and you will see that the video is fine.

Burn with Imgburn to good quality discs and you won't lose the last 20 minutes.

That sounds like a common problem caused by poor quality media. Skips and pauses normally relate to DVD media problems. It usually shows up in the last part of the DVD, which is burned at the outer part of the disc. That's a problem area for some media. You could try reducing the size of your DVD file by maybe 200 or so MBs. But a better solution is to try a different brand of DVD media. ConvertX usually does a good job of conversion.

What brand DVD media are you using? If you are using a good brand like Verbatim or TY, then you may have another problem.

Test play the original clip in vlc first if possible, and see if it's all there, or any anomalies during play back prior to starting any conversion process.

Where are you ? ... you need to consider fps ... if your in the us, then downloading pal would not be clever, check each clip with gspot before conversion to confirm if a fps conversion is required.

Test play the created disc on the pc, if it plays fine there, then either the home dvd player is not far off from being replaced, or it dose not like that particular brand being used.

    Remember:

A pc will play any fps clip provided it has the correct decoders installed, a home dvd player is far more restricted in what it supports in play back.

I would also suggest some house cleaning ... defrag the system's hd's more often.

Dvd media has little to do with anything, until the first set of principals are confirmed.

Ive had media from lg, hp, verbatim, data professional, and a few others, and there's been no problems, thou all my burns are done by imgburn.

The one's I would touch unless I was paid by the companies, are sony and tdk

  5. Thanks for the comments - interesting problem is that my video doesn't fill a DVD. The files are only 2.5G or so. I am using cheap DVD's - they are Taiyo Yuden disks. Is the disk quality still the most likely problem?

Are all your problem DVDs around 2.5GB? Probably unlikely, but some authoring programs may have problems with small DVD sizes, though that is rare.

TY is generally among the higher quality DVD disc manufacturers. But there are a few burners that may have compatibility problems with them. But you might try some Verbatim discs. They are generally available in some chain stores, which you may have locally. The typical problem with cheap discs is stutters near the outer edge of the disc. If it's in the last few minutes of a DVD, try reducing the size somewhat to avoid using that area. I used to burn cheap discs about 200MB less than the 4.37 DVD-5 disc capacity to avoid problems.

I would also follow what Bjs said about making sure your files play back properly before you burn them. This is in case your problem is with the encode or authoring, or burning part of the procedure.
