http://media-convert.com/ , choose your flv file and select audio video interleave(AVI) as output.

Not from that link. That is only one part of a multi part archive.

    what are rar files
    Quote Quote
  10. RAR files are archive files crated by WinRAR. Archive files usually contain one or more files compressed to make them more portable (smaller for uploading and downloading).

The file you linked to was one part of a multipart archive. You need all parts in order to extract the FLV file that's inside them.

  11. Those two links were sufficient to get the entire archive. There are two FLV videos inside. About 10 minutes each.

Well I'm not impressed with Media-convert.com. I directed to convert an flv from youtube into avi and the resulting file had nothing but static for audio and poorer quality video than the flv.

I have a freeware program called atube, available from http://ytc.dsnetwb.com/atube_software_forEx/ which is supposed to be able to convert flv to other formats but I don't seem to have the right codec to make it work...

What are some other options for flv conversion?

Vixy online did a horrible job. No sound and pixelated washed out video.

I've only used it a few times to convert short clips to Divx AVI but worked fine for me. Maybe your graphics card's video overlay needs to be adjusted?

  17. @Clydesdale - Avidemux works for me for most .flv's. (FLV=>XviD and MP3 in .avi container)

  18. Obviously, for the best results you should download the FLV and do your own conversion. But if you don't want to learn how to do conversions vixy.net is ok.

I've done many conversions over the years. Flv is the new element here...

  20. I normally use AviDemux or VirtualDub to convert FLV to AVI.

Virtualdub doesn't even recognize an flv file.

Avidemux makes a nice quality mpeg conversion but with no audio. The various selections for video and audio are less than clear. At a minimum I'd like to be able to extract audio from the flv.......

VirtualDub with FLV input plugin can open FLV's.

    Odd...
    What's config?
Of course You choose MPEG-PS (A+V), not just MPEG video?

If FLV contain MP3 audio... FLV Extract (or FFmpeg, MPlayer/MEncoder, Avidemux, VirtualDub with FLV input plugin).
If FLV contain other audio (Nellymoser or ADPCM)... required recompression, example used FFmpeg.

ok here's the settings I used with avidemux:

    Video DVD (lavc)

    Audio AC3 (lavc)
    Resampling 48000 khz

    Format MPEG-PS

Resulting mpeg has audio but way out of sync with video

    I also tried:

Video Mpeg 4 ASP (Xvid 4)

    Audio mp3 (lame)

    Format AVI

Again audio is out of sync.

I got the virtualdub flv plugin and was able to load the file but when trying to save to avi I got a codec error (codec cannot decompress to an RGB format).

    ??

Use FLV Extract and look at True Frame Rate and Average Frame Rate.
If different... FLV have VFR (variable frame rate).
    (Possible exceptions...)

Avidemux and VirtualDub not support variable frame rate.
If video have VFR, good solution is use Avisynth script (with set source FPS and used ConvertFPS) or eventually FFmpeg.

You choose and configure video codec? Example Xvid?

    BTW
Look 'around'... many similar topics is on this and other forums.

Not really familiar with this software. I had audio at direct stream copy and video at full processing. Then chose File/Save as AVI. What codec do I need to make this work?

Ok it does have different values for average and true frame rate in flv extract. I dont understand your reference to avisynth...

If You have set Full processing mode, then go to Compression... - choose video codec and configuration (bitrate, ... ).

It's Your choice. Example Xvid or DivX.
Of course first - You must have installed this codec (in system).

    Well, it's probably VFR.

To avoid 'out of sync' (if source have VFR).

    Install Avisynth (if not installed).
Write simple script (example in Notepad) and save with .avs extension.
    Code:
    DirectShowSource("C:\path\name_file.flv",FPS=29.97, ConvertFPS=true)
FPS= set true frame rate (after check used FLV Extract)
Open .avs file in VirtualDub, choose and configure audio and video codecs, save/recompress to AVI.

I haven't used ffmpeg. I had that mixed up with one of the codecs.
