I pointed the program to my VIDEO_TS folder which has the downloaded files from a cam disc and it processed 0 files and took 0 secs. Folder is on a memory stick. I have .net framework. What have I done wrong?

    Since you asked...
    1) Your subject, although arguably accurate, is completely unhelpful towards describing your problem. Use a more descriptive subject next time.
    2) Your failure to tell us WHAT software you are using is a classic newbie blunder when asking for help. Do note that the less you tell us about what you did, the less likely you are to get help. Newbies seem to think that saying as little as possible is a great idea. It is not.

Assuming Baldrick's guess was right. (Great detective work, then. ) You are probably trying to save the output to the same drive or folder that the original file is on. That will give you that error.

Thanks for all replying and apologies for my lack of info. I have downloaded VOB2MPG. If I select the source from my flash drive on k: (K:\VIDEO.TS folder) and select a folder on my hard drive and click start I get "Finished processing 0 vobsets Duration 00:00:00".

    Thanks.

Also if there some help on how best to convert the captured mpg file to a progressive flash version for the web?

How big are the files on your flash drive ?
Can you play the contents with MPC or VLC ?

I do not have the players you refer to. I can play the 138MB Rocket Launch.VOB with Nero 8 and Quicktime. The folder contains:
    Deafult.PLS 1kb
    Rocket Launch.VOB 138Mb
    VIDEO_TS.BUP 12Kb
    VIDEO_TS.IFO 12Kb
    VIDEO_TS.VOB 96Kb
    VTS_01_0.BUP 14Kb
    VTS_01.0.IFO 14Kb

I have moved the folder to hard drive and checked there.

Try changing the name of Rocket Launch.VOB back to what it should be VTS_01_0.VOB

Also, if VTS_01.0.IFO is the correct name, and not a typo, change it back to VTS_01_0.IFO

No DVD has a VOB called Rocket Launch.VOB. The naming convention used by DVDs is fixed and needs to be followed for standard tools to work.

I changed the filename to no effect. The other was a typo. Maybe my install of the program is bad?

Or the DVD structure is bad. If you (or someone) have been changing file names etc, then who knows what state it is in.

I am not sure what it is you are extracting the mpg file for, but given that camera created VOBs are very simple affairs, you might just try changing the extension to .mpg instead. Not something I would normally recommend, but unless you can get the original disc, this might be the only option. I have absolutely no faith at all in the file structure you are currently working with.

Thanks gunslinger, I do work for a school and this was copied from the small disc that came out of the cam. I will have to go back to source to check what happened. BTW, I have now successfully converted (using the same file set names) to mp4 using Nero 8 but I would like other options like VOB2MPG but doesn't seem to work.

My intention is to convert to flash so that I can progressively download from a website at an acceptable rate. But I need advice on how to do that as well. Cheers.

FWIW, I regularly use VOB2MPG on discs burned by my DVD Recorder, and have yet to have it fail me. That is why I suspect that the original DVD structure is at the root of your current issue.

As for conversion to FLV, there are plenty of options, RIVA being a popular one. Although this is primarily about video prep for youtube, it will probably cover a lot of the same ground you are interested in : https://forum.videohelp.com/topic346256.html

Thanks, I'll follow it up but I'm giving up on VOB2MPG as this is not a subject area I really know much about.
