I shot a video with a Canon HD camcorder, and did my editing in Sony Vegas 8 using setting for HDV. I want to burn this to a standard DVD, so I rendered as NTSC DVD mpg2. When I play back the mpeg in VLC player, it looks very dark, the colors seem to have shifted, and I'm getting very obvious interlace lines. I'm a bit of a novice, and would appreciate any help to make a decent looking DVD.
Thanks.

Look up BT709 to BT601 Conversion to fix the darkness

Interlacing artifacts might be due to rendering with the wrong field order. Try encoding Top Field First.
