I have some HD movie files(.m2ts, .mp4, .mkv) that I would like to burn to a standard DVD for friends that don't have a Blu-ray player. What is the easiest way to do this? Or is it involved because of the shrinking?

I like AVStoDVD for this type thing. It is free and does a good job. If you are happy to pay, ConvertXtoDVD is another good option.

avstodvd is good and I also recommend it.
Another option is if your regular dvd authoring application that you already use supports importing video and audio files seperately you can demux the files. You will still need to encode them to mpeg2 dvd standard prior to importing.
That is what is good about avstodvd. Its suite of apps does it in an automated fashion.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Has anyone else had some problems converting to dvd video from M2TS files with VC1 codec? The last one I did, AVStoDVD choked big time and would not convert it. I'm not sure if it was the VC-1 codec or if it was the audio (DTS-HD MA). I solved it by writing an AviSynth script and running HCencGUI. I demuxed with ClownBD and converted the audio separately, but AVStoDVD doesn't seem to be a foolproof solution for all such files.
