Power off memory

Hi all. Just bought a new Marantz DV 7001 ($1495) and am very dissapointed it does not have power off memory. Its hard for me to watch a film in one sitting thus this feature is crucial. My $50 DVD player had power-off lol.

Any ideas on what player $500-$1500 has this feature?? I dont think the Denon range has either. I'm after a DVD/SACD in one unit.

Have you tried pressing play with the power off? Some newer players you can't power the player up then press play to resume, you have to press play with the power off.

Yeah. Just tried your idea of Play while off-didnt work. Damn. lol. I may have to put this up on eBay! SOmeone said they're almost sure the Denon 3910 has the feature.

If you don't want to sell the player and buy a new one, you could try what I do. I also don't often watch movies all the way through. If I need to stop the movie, I stop it at a time increment exactly divisible by 5. For example, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 110 minutes, and so on. Using increments of 5 makes it easy for me to remember where I was and I can just restart the movie and jump to that time frame the next time I watch it. None of my players have this power off memory you talk about. This is not a common feature.

How about using the remote for powering off the unit? One of my DVD players goes into sleep mode when the power button on the remote is pressed and, when powered back on, will be in "pause" mode right where it left off. If I use the power button on the unit, however, it does forget.

Isn't this what chapters are for ? Just start again at the chapter nearest where you left off.

My old Pioneer used to keep track of the last 5 discs played. My current players all only remember the last disc played, and only if you leave it in the machine - which I never do - so they are pretty much useless. I just use the time jump or chapter skip to get back up to speed (although mostly I finish a film in one sitting)

Thanks for all your feedback. Tried the Remote/standby mode and it didnt work. Going through the chapters is just a waste of time especially since Im used to the immediate power off feature of my last unit. It was so convenient. Such ease. Unfortunately, it buggs me. I'll give it a week-Hopefully I'll get used to going throught the chapters. If not, will put it on eBay.

Resuming playback from the last
stopped point
This DVD system is able to resume disc
playback from its last stopped point (only
possible for the last 10 discs that were
recorded without a menu).
1 Load one of the last 10 discs played.
2 While “LOADING” appears on the display
panel, press PLAY to start playback from
the last stop point.
To cancel the resume mode
• Press stop twice.

I don't know what that "last 10 discs without a menu" means.
