I have been using GFD for some time, and have accumulated quite a few projects. Recently, I had a problem which required me to re-install Windows XP from scratch, and now I am in the process of installing software and loading my backed-up work for all of them.

Since my new file system is a little different, GFD can't find some of my assets, but I expected that. I have successfully changed some newer projects to use assets in their new locations, but with the older ones, I have found that only a few of the buttons appear on menu work area, and the text labels are missing entirely. When I use View ->Menu Preview, the text labels appear, but they are not where I put them originally. The project tree view shows everthing that was originally there.

Anybody have any good advice on getting my old projects back?

  2. Usually only the path settings are wrong. As Gfd saves the projects in a 'standard' xml format, you can try to search and replace the wrong path settings with any text editor.
If text labels are missing, it could also be a problem with the used fonts (I have this problem often, when people send me project files for debugging). In this case install the missing fonts or replace the font settings with another font name in the gfd project file.
For more help I would need one of your old project files.

Thanks borax. The problem was definitely caused by missing fonts used in my older projects. Once I installed them again, the buttons and labels that had vanished re-appeared.
