Is there a program that can backup your system restore point. I'm asking because i just went to check my restore point in case this particular software i'm about to install fails. Then i notice, there were no restore point. There was one there this morning. I guess windows cleaned it up. So is there a software out there that can create a restore point and I want to be able to back it up on my other backup drive. Thanks

Not sure about that, but you could use a program like True Image or Ghost and make a backup, then incremental backups as needed to keep it up to date.

BTW, wiping out your restore files is also a nasty practice of some malware. But I assume you do virus scans and keep your anti-malware programs up to date.

No backup + System restore points are removed once 90 days expires.

If you want to prevent problems, invest in a drive imaging product such as acronis true image or paragons drive image ... there's also nortons ghost but not recommended (reported problems)

Thanks for the input. I have NOD32 3.0 installed, never saw any malware issues. I will try Acronis. Thanks

Update. I had a trojan so i removed it. Thanks. I can't believe that my NOD32 did not catch it before. But thanks. Now I heard that the Maxtor One Touch has a software called safety drill and that this software backups restore points. Can i buy this sofware and use it just to backup restore points, or do i have to buy a Maxtor whcih i'm not to crazy about. Thanks

  6. That was my guess that you had malware that removed the restore point too.

Since you had the Restore point in the morning and later it was gone, My guess is that the infection occurred between those times.

I would also run Super AntiSpyware and AVG AntiSpyware as many of those trojans purpose is to download other types of Malware such as remote control programs or Adware or other types of SpyWare.

If you don't add software often the TeaTimer function in Spybot Search and Destroy can tell you when something is trying to install.

    Good Luck

I don't think I would want to rely upon the system restore point alone. Some redundant protection can be a good thing. If you're just talking about the Registry, there is a free utility called ERUNT that handles this. Strictly manual use, as to when you take a "snapshot", but it can also restore, it is pretty straightforward, and you can archive the results elsewhere for safety. There are payware programs that cover this also, in a handholding GUI sort of way, but outside of some convenience features I don't think they offer much advantage over ERUNT, which is free.

That would be another reason I'd suggest looking beyond the built-in create restore point feature. That seems to have become a malware target, to some extent. Your AV and AS comments are still important to mention, though.
