I believe that's an Apex bug. If you haven't already...
Try hittng the subtitle button on your remote...if you have one.
Also go into the menu of the DVD and turn of subs. -
i turn it off every time but how do i change the default so when i play the dvd the subs aren't on?

Are you sure it's not the DVD itself? Some of mine always default to subtitles on.

I'm in Australia & have got a Hiteker AD-600A (which is an APEX with a different badge) and had the same problem. I had the Bring it On DVD & couldn't turn the subtitles off at all!!
It was a bug with the firmware of the player itself. I had to upgrade my firmware to get rid of it.
My guess is you've got the same problem and will need to do the same to fix it.

my dvd player wont accept the firmware, but thanks anyway. i guess im just stuck having to turn the subs off manually. ahh well. for $180 (cdn) what can you expect. checked at nerdout and no one there had a fix either. :x
