Prologic is a decoding method not an encoding method. It is impossible to encode a prologic audio stream.

A prologic receiver will decode any stereo source into prologic. I'm sure there are methods to encode a stereo audio stream in such a way that it is more condusive to prologic decoding but I don't know how. Hopefully someone else can give you some pointers.

  3. In my mind you cant decode without encode.. Maybe a proLogic reciever can play any stereosource in "ProLogic" but there MUST be some difference in the result in how you Mix it... I know that you should do this:

    Put left channel 100% Left
    Put right channel 100% Right
    put center in middle
make surroundchannel by "invert "the phase of a mono track..

IF you downmix these 4 ch to stereo, you should have a stereotrack including ProLogic sound BUT i cant get it to work

    anyone??

What you are describing is dolby surround sound, which is an encoding method. As I said before, Dolby Prologic is a decoding method. You do not encode the center and surround channels, they are derived from the left and right channels. All you need, and in fact all you can do is encode your left and right channels and the decoder does the rest.

Downmixing is only required for dolby surround. Someone posted an explaination of how to manually downmix into dolby surround. Do a forum search on it and you should be able to find it.

  5. hi,

as far as i know DOLBY PROLOGIC is a Method used to separate any sound in put based on the frequency of the sound into front/center and rear channel out put. You can see this for ecample get a old vedio tape with no dolby or any sound effect and use dolby prologic to paly the sound on the reciver you will know what it does. Hope this helps

    Baskaran
