  1. Hi
I have not been able to get good quality recording (karaoke) on my computer. I posted an issue earlier on this website sometime back regarding delay in the vocal when I tried to record using Audacity. There were some feedback given that it may be because of the laptop I am using (I was using Dell Dual Core).

My requirement is pretty simple, I usually connect external Microphone to my laptop, play the track (loaded on the computer) using recording software such as Audacity (is there any other freeware that is better than Audacity) and try to record my vocals. So far I have only tried Dell latest configuration (Dual Core) and it doesn't work. It introduces a delay in the recorded vocals compared to the track as the song progresses.

I am therefore looking for suggestions on what laptops are generally considered good for audio recording purposes. I can still return my Laptop to get a different model/brand/configuration.

Reaper. Drop you backing onto one track, then record onto another.

Your laptop should be able to keep up.

Are you running XP or Vista ?

  4. I have tried sound recorder also and there is delay in the recording. I am using XP.
I try to follow these steps when recording through Audacity:

    1. Connect Mic to Mic in of laptop (have used line in also)
    2. Open a music file (karaoke track) on Audacity. My audacity is set to take input from Mic in/Line in for recording.
    3. Start recording (vocals get recorded on a separate track)
    4. Now when I play the recorded song..as the song progresses I see a delay in my vocals compared to the music. I try to shift (edit) my vocals to start a little early, but since the delay is introduced slowly it is still difficult to align.
The model of my laptop is Latitude D620.
    Could it be Sound Card?
