  1. I recently burned an SVCD of Rat Race, when i attempt to play it back on ym dvd player it plays as if it is playing 1 frame per-second. Like for instance a character will say something like apple juice, what i hear is aa..pause..ple jui..pause..ce. and the video pauses too, the pauses are about a few milliseconds long. whats wrong! I burned it with NERO on Digital Research CD-R's

  2. Try another brand of CD-R. I have had a lot of trouble with many brands of CD-Rs. Now I use Verbatim DataLifePlus or Kodak Silver/gold. What bitrate do you use ?, maybe it is too high for your DVD player

    Morning...

    ataris,

...or, forget Nero's encoder all-2-getha, and learn how to use
TMPG and encode to SVCD using one of its VCD/SVCD templates. Bisides
, nero is much slower at encoding vs TMPG. I've tried the VCD ver.
    of the encoder (I think)

Don't be too lazy. Read the guides to your left. People here devoted
a lot of there time to provide this information. Below is something
to get you going. I suggest you read through them... you'll be
    quite happy you did... :

    * How to convert to VCD w/ TMPG
    * How to convert to SVCD w/ TMPG
    * How to convert to VCD w/ Pan.
    * etc., etc.

    good luck.

  4. Well first off..this player does NOT support SVCD. What you are experiencing is the VBV buffer under flow on this player. This player will accept mpeg2s authored as VCDs at VCD resolutions. The key is to keep you VBV buffer size in the 40s.

I have this same unit - Could you please elaborate on this VBV buffer? This is the first time I have heard the term. Is this something you can control from within TMPGEng or some other software?

I followed a link in the DVD Player compatability section to a post about this unit and how to "trick" it into playing an mpeg2. The workaround instructions worked for me (for the one SVCD I have tried - 4 disks), but I don't really "know" what it actually did...I mean...was my final disk a VCD, SVCD, XVCD ???? All I know is the final copy worked (and looked great).

Here is the link with the instructions that I followed to make an mpeg2 work: http://www.long-distance-longdistance.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?topic=486&forum=4&10

  6. TMPG is the only app that I know of where you can adjust the buffer...the "trick" method you followed, you made what is called an xVCD....VBV (video buffer verifier), in laymans terms, its a bufffer that controls the flow of video to the decoder buffer within the DVD player. Im VCDs it is typically 40 KB, and SVCD is 112 KB. The problem with this player and the SVCD is that the buffer is too large. The player expects the buffer only to be around 40KB, so when it is 112, the player's buffer runs out and is not refilled in the proper time. So that is where the stuttering comes from.

Now instead of going through this "trick" you can simply make an xVCD from the beginning especially since at equal bitrates & resolution, mpeg1 & mpeg2 preform the same. The best for this particular player, is an xVCD at 352x480 2 PASS VBR MPEG1 with TMPG.
