    Hi,

I recorded an episode of a TV series on my DVD recorder (in vob/mpeg2/ac3 format) and on immediate playback via mpc, I have some scenes that are pixelated/"blockish" (is this the right term?).

There's no such problem when I watch it on the TV from the recorder.

I understand that the problem is inherent in the vob file but can anything be done to improve the quality?

    Thanks in advance

It looks like corruption in the VOB, however it is odd that it plays back OK on the TV.

I would start by copying the contents to your HDD and playing from there. You might also demux and test the stream. Try a different player as well.

If the problem persists then you have corrupt data, and there is basically nothing you can do to improve it.

    Hi guns1inger,

    thanks for the reply...

i think i may have mislead you, sorry...

when i said it played ok on the player, i was refering to the files in the HDD of the recorder, not playing the dvd in the player/recorder...

terribly sorry for not being clear...

Makes more sense. OK then. You have a bad burn. Throw away the disc (or record over it if is an RW) and try again. Make sure you are using quality discs as well.

No probs. At least it's salvageable. Some people just go 'record, delete' and then ask 'how do I get my video back ?'. The idea of testing doesn't seem to occur to them.
