  1. Hi Guys,

Hopefully someone will be able to point me in the right direction.

What I need is a portable HD device that captures mpeg2\ac3 or mpeg2 audio for dvd compliant files, this is so that I can use these files and compile a dvd in say dvdlab or any other authoring tool.

What I will be capturing is from is digital betacam, so naturaly the relevant connection are essential (Bnc/Phono)
I know a dvd recorder can do this for me, however what it doesnt provide me with is that luxury of being able to move around as often as I would like.

Is there any device out there that maybe suited to my needs, I have tried looking high and low but can't seem to find anything that will do excatly what I need.

All help will be much appreciated.

They have PCI cards like the hauppage line that encode directly to MPEG but you'll need a computer.

They make external MPEG encoders but I don't know if any of them can be connected directly to a HD... I've seen professional combo decks that were quite small that had DV/HD/ with a DVD burner , these are for playback of DV tapes and are quite expensive, something like that may have onboard mpeg encoder.

Other than that have looked to see if any of the DVD camcorders are able to record from external source, there's even a few models that have HD's like the everio's, don't know if you can connect another source directly to them though.

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?shs=everio&ci=0&sb=ps&pn=1&sq=desc&Ini...arch&Q=*&bhs=t

I'd check around th other parts of that site, you're bound to find something. you'll find a few examples of the combo decks I mentioned too.
