I''m trying to make some backup copies of a few of my movies (full disk, not just main movie), using the free version of DVDFab HD Decrypter 4 (4.0.6.2). I've ripped the files to the hard drive, then burned the video_ts file using Nero Express 6. It works fine on DVD5 movies, but DVD9 will not work in my standalone player. I've also tried imaging the video_ts files and then burning them with ImgBurn, but the resulting discs behave exactly the same way as when burning from the video_ts (vob) files with Nero (after inserting the disk, it is slow to read, then goes to title containing the FBI warning). Firmware on the burner (Samsung SH-S182D) is upgraded, and I'm using Verbatim DL made in Singapore media. Any thoughts? This is driving me to distraction!

Would be helpful to know what brand is your standalone dvd player? Not all dvd players especially older models will playback DL media.

Well, at least you are using good DL media

SL media will not play in 100% of standalone players & DL media is prob. the 2nd least compatible DVDR media in standalone players.

Have you ever played any kind of DL recordable media in your SA ??

And although i have burned many, many, many SL dvd's in my time with nero over the last many years that worked & still work perfectly fine, nero is NOT what you want to use for DL media.

And i won't get into the whole "newer Vs. older" SA's playing DL media dealio

DVD Fab's burning engine sucks. I haven't burned a playable disc with it - not certain why. Same folder would burn fine with convertxtodvd or using shrink and imgburn (iso), or TDA3???????????????????????

BTW: Verbatim media. Sony drive, 8X speed - not a recipe for disaster, I quit using DVDFab for burns after I discovered the 1st one that wouldn't play. Thank goodness it was on single layer 30 cent media, not a 3 dollar DL.

You don't need Shrink to create ISOs for Imgburn. You can get Imgburn to create an ISO for you, or burn directly without one. In my experience Imgburn does not need an ISO, and there is nothing to be gained by creating one for it.

He was not using DVDfab anything to burn his dvd's, he said he used Nero and ImgBurn to burn them.
Which i would never use anything but ImgBurn to burn DL+R's.

And i have burned quite a few SL dvd's with DVDFab Platinum and never had a playback problem, funny thing is, dvdfab and ConvertXtoDvd both use the VSO burning engine 8) & why would you use ConvertXtoDvd to burn a dvd folder and i did not think you could use ConvertXtoDvd to "JUST" burn a dvd folder, i thought it had to ocnvert first thenburns the resulting files/folder to dvdr, but anywho......

The nice thing about DVDFab Platinum now is it will even use ImgBurn now to burn your final video folder.

Not certain what is the issues with DVDFab, but I couldn't get a working burn with it.

I agree with using ImgBurn for burns. It and DVD Decrypter are what I use for over 95% of burning.

I do question if there is an issue with eclypse's layer break settings, or if the drive is being problematic.

Update: My version of Imgburn was 2.3.2.0 - current 2.4 = explains what I was missing.

As a rule i don't use either to burn with but i have at diff. times and i set other people up with DVDFab Platinum for a one click program to make it easy for them and getting regular updates just to make it easier on myself not having to walk them through the process a 100 times a week

Same here, that is why i am glad they added support in DVDFab Platinum for using ImgBurn for burning the finished files.

From what i have experianced & read, usually if there is a problem with the layerbreak, it will still play fine until the layerbreak is reached, i'm thinking something with the Standalone or the burner maybe.

But then we don't know what kind of SA he is using, how old it is, has he ever played DL+R media on it before, do the disc's play/work on any other SA's, ect ect ect.

Actually, shortly after posting the OP, I thought that it might be the SA itself. It is a Panasonic S35, probably 4 or 5 years old. The burned DLs do play on my PC.
