**** Sony (as always
)
Only idiots and those without any choice support this sick brand anyways. -
Yup, that's me. Love Sony stuff. Never bought anything from them I didn't regret. Obviously a ******* idiot. Oh well, I'll get by.
I found this about TransferJet (the alleged rival):
http://www.physorg.com/news118940529.html
They are complementary solutions. WUSB is meant for major peripherals like printers, servers, scanners blah-de-blah. TransferJet only operates over very short distances and is meant for "intelligent" data transfer. e.g., you merely put a cell phone on top of your TV and it automatically downloads video clips or whatever from the phone to the TV. Or it could be a camcorder - just place it on top of the TV and it will start playing - no connections, no intervention. Or with a PDA, throw it on top of your coffee table (as you probably do anyway) and automatically have it sync up with your PC or whatever. Sounds cool to me. And doesn't threaten the USB consortium one iota.
My first DV camcorder (from 1999) has an IR transmitter than sends the video to a TV with a suitable receiver. It also turns on any Sony TV to the right video channel. So they were at this a long time ago.
Back to editing some shit with Vegas recorded with a Sony camcorder.
PS - USB has a much greater competitor - FireWire. And there's no need to develop a special wireless USB - all that's needed is a transceiver at each host. But that would be too simple and wouldn't generate enough money for the consortium that includes many other evil empires. -

I always read your comments (meaning: I don't think youre an idiot obviously) but this one really baffles me. -
Sony Corp. has thrown a wrench into the works by unexpectedly announcing what looks very much like a competing, incompatible standard.
I wish they would just die already 8) -

I too have made many $ony purchases and never regretted any of them. When I have strayed in the past to other brands were the times I regretted my purchase choices.
Just because BetaMax, minidisc, miniDV, & DAT weren't consumer friendly doesn't mean they were inferior or that all of Sony's products are also faulty or inferior.
I love me some WEGA Trinitron.

Sony still didn't ship my MiniDV tapes I ordered last year.
does anyone remember ?

My Sony Beta decks all work fine but all but my Sony VHS/SVHS decks (barring my SLV-R5UC) are now residing in landfills. They really started to go downhill after shifting their production facilities to China, Mexico, Malaysia, etc. I don't buy their products anymore (including their DVD blanks after they gave up on the Taiyo Yudens they were using), especially after they pulled their company outlet out of this area a few years back. Their customer support is a pale shade of what it used to be only a few years ago...

I still have 3 Sony VHS machines that work great. Of course, they don't see much use these days... One is used 24/7 as a tuner for our old p.o.s. TV in the bedroom, but who the hell watches VHS anymore?
We used all 3 of them regularly until about 8 months ago when we got a DVR. Never had any problems.
Their DVD blanks are total shit, I have to concede to that.
Launch PlayStations had some laser assembly issues... Launch PS2's had major laser unit issues... As did some early DVD players that shared those same laser units.
Their CD players are rock solid. I have literally beat the shit out of my old discman and it goes strong. Dropped it on pavement while doing about 35 on my bike and when I went back to get it the thing was still playing -- just plug the headphones back in and keep on trekkin'. Had an almost identical experience with a Walkman back in the day.
Can you name 1 electronics manufacturer that hasn't put out some total shit?
My JVC S-VHS machine, awesome as it is, has the most absolutely worthless tuner I've ever seen.
Don't get me started on Pioneer's "Elite" line of laser disc players!"To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." - Steven Wright

I'm going to taking a friend's SLHF900 off his hands as he no longer wants it. Nothing particularly wrong with it but it's the landfill otherwise. If it does need servicing one of my tech friends was a Sony Factory trained tech before he retired, so I can get it fixed if necessary. I never went down the audio road with Sony. And after the death of Akio Morita, the home electronics division seemed to collapse. Who would have thought they would hire a Welshman to "turn the division around"? That was an unheard of thing. Sony's execs were always Japanese.

During the 1980's I remember Akio Morita stating the future was all about computainment. IMHO he was Mr. Sony!

Sony's execs were always Japanese.
In fact, I would not feel surprised at all if a REAL Japanese man or woman
came shout "!!baka amerika-jin!!" at those megacorp execs. -

I think we all had our Sony CRT TVs at some point in time, don't we all?
And exactly as you said - since Morita's death Sony is no longer Sony we all knew. Its the same shit made in often same factories and based on same chips from same chinese, malaysian, mexican and god-knows-where-else factories as any other company, with the only difference that Sony's product are often more limited than other, and always cost more (for that "It's a Sony" sticker and logo).
Heck, even their warranties are no longer as it used to be, but often worse than from real crapmakers.... -
I prefer my version of the world. Your reality has no bearing on mine.

and as for my "1 sony crap" in my profile - just because i have that single piece of expensive garbage (for years), does it right away mean that I bought it? Come on (some) people, don't be *that* simple LOL. I understand some have no friends or family to give them anything, but I'm sure everyone must have at least heard of a "gift" concept
/edit/ Almost forgot explain last obvious thing: facebook and myspace are full of people's profiles (thus they are perfect for those who like to read'em)...
any more questions? -

Before you do, please don't bring up the rootkit fiasco. It wasn't Sony. It was Sony-BMG - distinctly separate. Sony are as deserving of flak for that as Random House. -

(from marketing textbooks, in few words).
Johnny, you are Sony-owned and you like it. Thats exactly what sony marketing people wanted (sony is as good as apple in this... however IMHO apple is better when it comes to marketing, but not by much)

Odd thing is I'm not actively aware of Sony advertising their stuff. Actually, I'm very resilient when it comes to advertising - thankfully. Except one notable case: Apple. With me, their advertising has the very opposite effect of that required (or maybe it doesn't - maybe they don't want my kind). I actively hate them (Apple, not just their ads) because of their persona. I had a hard Christmas because my wife wanted some Bose headphones to go with her (assembled in a Chinese workhouse) Nano. (She needs it because she's in "the biz" and has to listen to all kinds of stuff from clients). Just the very thought of having to help put iTunes and stuff on her laptop tormented me to no end. My Apple-free zone has been attacked at its very core. Damn them! -
Apple takes it to the next level - cult worship. An example is the recent announcement of the Air notebook at MacWorld. It has been widely panned as a ho-hum computer with only one attribute; that is it's thin. But when Stevie-poo the cult leader pulled it out of an envelope, the press described it as being received by the "coos and giggles of his fans". Cultism is the ultimate brand recognition. He could have pulled anything out of that envelope and received a similar reaction from his brain-addled fans.

I don't know how old are you, but if you are under 30 - you are "the target" for sure.
Be careful...first the iTunes through your wife, and before you know it - you'll wake up with iMac on your desk and iPhone in your pocket

I bowed my head to apple at that time. I knew their marketing skills are excellent, but still, to sell outdated, limited and crippled piece of hardware , at 500% profit or so - and still be loved for it - that takes the cake
