    I am looking at buying a camcorder strictly for passthrough of VCR tapes to my mac. My questions is this: is a Panasonic model with 3CCD going to matter if I am using the camcorder for passthrough only? I am not going to be using the camera for actual filming, where I understand the 3CCD is going to give me better colors.

    The camera is independent of the analog capture path.

    Not all camcorders have analog capture but those that do have similar analog to DV stream performance.
