To cut a long story short I use FAVC to convert my 720p.hdtv.x264 1gb matroska 1.7gb file to DVD format but It doesn't want to generate a fully working DVD, it only puts 4 files in a VIDEO_TS folder:

    VIDEO_TS (.vob)
    VTS_01_1 (.vob)
    VTS_01_2 (.vob)
    VTS_01_3 (.vob)

I have been advised to use TDA to complete the DVD but I'm a bit of a rookie and could do with a few things explained.
I am going to run through it step by step showing the parts that I have my queries on.

    1) Start>Output format (PAL)>Start new project
    2) Source Wizard>File>next>I select the 3 video vob files>"You are about to add several clips. Do you wish to add those clips without opening the Clip Editor window for each of them?">Yes

I burnt my conversion to disk using TDA and deleted the original conversion that FAVC created so I had to duplicate a random VTS_01_1 (.vob) twice for this post. So pretend these are the original VTS_01_1, VTS_02_1 ,VTS_01_3 video files.

I would like these to be "merged" because when I play it back in the Simulation it doesn't smoothly play it as one whole video it jumps when it moves on to the next clip.

I selected 'link clips' in the track settings and also changed the chapter interval to 5mins with the chapter tool on each clip. but that hasn't worked. Also what does that 'Do not adjust this track size' tick box do?

I don't want my video/audo quality to be touched at all so do I need to fiddle with any of these settings?

I would really like these explained. Thank you.

Try join the vobs with vobmerge first and then add in tda.

  3. When you import a DVD to TDA don't use "File" option but "DVD-Video...". It will import whole DVD in correct order and structure.

If the DVD has separate Titles they may be import only as such but you can move them after to specific track. TDA will flag any separate track item as non seamless, so it will cause a short pause when played on a standalone. To overcome this limit file or DVD has to be demuxed and eventually joined before importing it to TDA.

    PAL not NTSC?
I use VideoRedo in these situations-then, TDA.

So how exactly does vobmerge achieve this and does it affect the quality of my video in anyway.

It would be best if FAVC would just work fully and create a fully playable DVD but since it doesn't want to it's tough toots. I don't mind having to faff around and finish off the DVD manually just so long as the quality of my converted video isn't affected in anyway. Quality comes first in my books.

So my main question simply is will the quality differ having to finish off the DVD with the vobmerge and TDA method from if FAVC generated a DVD fully? And will I need to play with setting within TDA or it is a simple as loading the merged vob into TDA and that's that? I demand the best quality and since I am very happy with FAVC's conversion I DO NOT want it degraded.

I'd really appreciate my questions answered so I can put my queries to rest. Thank you.

If you have correct DVD structure there's no need in VOBMerge or the like, just import DVD titles by dragging VIDEO_TS.IFO file to SOURCE window (the same as browsing for DVD folder as mentioned, but faster). The wizard will suggest importing with chapter information.
