I have a Kids DVD called "Where the wild things are". It's a scholastic DVD. I am trying to copy this DVD. I have never had a problem coping any DVD to date. But this one seems strange. I have a Plextor DVDR PX-76A on my Dell PC. It will not recognize this DVD. I have tried DVD Decrypter, Ripit4me, and AnyDVD. Usually when I put in a DVD of any kind Windows asks what program do I what to view it in. But with this DVD, nothing happens.

I then put in this DVD on a regular DVD player in my room and walla it works. The DVD plays in a DVD player but not on my PC. I then put in any movie that I have and my PC picks it right up with no problem.

What is up with this DVD? I see no warnings of any kind that I am unable to copy this DVD. The DVD cover looks like a regular DVD that you would by from the store.

Does anybody have some suggestions as to tackle this problem? Am I missing something?

    Thanks for your help.

    OK,
I'm back. Maybe I did not explain this right. I'll try to be more direct. When I put in this cartoon movie called Where the wild things are", it's a scholastic DVD of some kind. When I put in this DVD on my PC it does not even read it. I cannot get past this point. Any other DVD works fine and I can copy it or watch it on my PC.
But this DVD I cannot get it to read on the plextor drive I have. I did go to explorer and try to start it that way but it came back with an I/O error on the drive or it says there is nothing mounted on the plextor drive which is D: on my PC.

Is that a better explanation of my problem?

sure. it may just be a type of dvd your burner can't read. nothing special that i can find about it. how old is your burner? can you try it on another computer? one last thing to try. get imgburn. start it. put it in verify or discovery mode and see if it can read it.

My Plextor drive is about two years old. Originaly Dell had just a read only DVD drive in my PC. I replaced it with a plextor read/write drive because I wanted to burn DVD's. I have not had a problem with it until now. Does the firmware need to be updated?

I'll try Imgburn over the weekend and let you know what happens.

    Thanks,

    Jerome

if there is a firmware update available it might be worth a shot but they usually only update the burning strategy for dvdr's.

  8. OP:Have you tried DVDFab Decrypter?
Also check the disc for fingerprints and scratches.

  9. I would also go back and ask again, are you holding down the shift key when you put in the DVD?
Hold it down until the DVD drive stops blinking. Unsually it might pause for a sec or 2 then blink a couple of more times.

Then I would use DVDinfo to see if it sees it.

Try removing the DVD drive from the device manager and reboot your computer and let your computer reinstall it.

This DVD should be readable in your PC. They have done nothing strange to it.

Your drive does not like it. It could be a problem with the DVD, it could be a problem with your drive, it could be they are just not compatible. I acquired a copy for my granddaughter can read it every where.

    This happens.

You might consider backing it up in some else's system and then reading the copy. It will probably workl.

    OK guys,

I am going to conclude that this particular DVD is not readable and unable to copy it. I tried all of your suggestions. I used DVDFab, Decrypter, Igmburn, AnyDvd, and also DVDInfo. All to no avail. Even in DVDInfo and after I mounted the DVD it said no media was mounted. I tried also holding down the shift key when putting in the DVD and still nothing.

I will conclude (concede) that this particular DVD is unreadable for my Plextor DVD drive. I have no trouble with any other DVD's out there....

But I will keep trying. I love to solve a mystery!

Try it another drive. If you have an external drive adapter plug in your old read only drive and see if that might work. You don't need a burner to rip it.

EDIT _ Though if you don't have a 5 1/4 external adapter it might be cheaper and more preferable to buy a new burner. They are only 35.00 or so brand new online for dual layer burners. Mind you that is a bit extreme for one disc. But you could also try it on a friends computer or a laptop you might have with a dvd drive. Good luck.

Plextor's aren't the best of readers. I keep an ancient (2002) Panasonic in an external enclosure for the difficult ones. It'll read almost everything.

I've had a similar problem a few times. Someone said to install a new version of PowerDVD. I'm not sure if it would've worked or not. I had to return the disc.

If Windows does not recognize the presence of the media none of these programs will work.

The driver has to be able to access the disk for any of them to work.
