Toshiba should make their HDDVD players "open source" and allow it to play all kinds of different formats like XviD-HD, H.264, MKV, DivX-HD, etc, and add network streaming capability.

Since their players already have the horsepower and network hardware, and they are being sold for significantly less than similar "Multimedia Players" which don't have HDDVD capability, if they brought out a player with these features, I would buy one.

A year later....

Yeah, the article is a year old and a lot has gone down in the last few months. For instance, just the other day National Geographic announced they are abandoning HD DVD and going BD exclusively. Remember, National Geographic has the largest selling HD disc (that includes Bluray) around: Planet Earth (of which I am a proud owner). I fear for HD, I don't see how they can survive.

Yeah, because I read a couple of weeks ago that the HD DVD was the best selling Hi-def disc of either format. Sure looks like it took a nose dive in the last couple weeks though. Kinda when Warner made their announcement. By the way, Warner is the parent company of National Geographic Video so it comes as no surprise.

Well I am glad I got my dual core amd installed. Now bluray has no stuttering for me so I am good either way.

I may hook up my 360 hddvd add on to the computer again. I'm interested in seeing if it will be stutter free now even though its a usb drive.

I like using the 360 as a media center but its so noisy that I would like to watch movies through the computer instead since its quiter. Though I don't have a quality remote for the computer yet.
