the program that came with the player is really bad. i tried to encode a movie with it and at the 10 hour mark it was only 65% done of the 700 meg file....is there any other program to use or at least some tricks?

As you probably already know, conversion time is cpu dependant. But some apps are much quicker than others.
Aside from that, it sounds like you are trying to convert a 700MB avi file to another format? This forum is for converting DVD to another format.
Look in the HOW TO: Convert section, then just choose your source and final file types. You will get a list of guides and tools.Google is your Friend
