    I have this: http://hipstreetonline.com/products/index.php?pid=194&module=product
It is a Hip Street HS-3007-4GBRD portable MP4 player.
The software included refuses to sync the audio of any of the AVI files I have attempted to convert. Normally I wouldn't even use the included software, but this machine is strange. The included software converts the avi files to the frame size of 176 X 220 and the image is reversed and rotated 90 degrees counter-clockwise when viewed under Windows. The image is correct when viewed on the MP4 player, but the audio is out of sync.
I own the Allok video converter, which is a terrific piece of software and has never failed me before, but I cannot get it to work with this player.
In G-Spot, the files that work register at (176 X 220); (18 fps); (XViD Codec); (MPEG-1 Layer 2 Audio Codec).
Does anyone know what settings I can use to make this work or what I may be doing wrong in the first place?

    Thanks all.

  2. I'm still trying to figure this thing out too, I bought it at the Cdn WalMart Boxing Week Sale, Im guessing you did too?
I tried using VirtualDub to get a working video, and couldn't. I realized the videos encoded with the bundled software only output I frames. The only solution to a fairly decent picture is bumping up the bitrate to a minimum of 900kbs, which really isn't ideal because the file sizes get too big. And anything above 650kbs starts to throw the AV sync off. One thing I did notice which helped a lot... you can ONLY use the bundled encoder, AVIConverter.
So go in the AVIConverter folder and make sure you can view hidden files. Open Converter.ini to modify the settings. Now you can adjust bitrate, size, fps, etc. BUT if you change the motion estimation to anything but me_quality=0, it won't be playable on the player, which would make a huge difference in quality, so its too bad you can't change it.
All in all, you're basically stuck using the bundled software, AVIConverter. Using anything else, or adjusting the settings in an attempt to get a better picture result in either a choppy playback, freezes, AV sync issues, or invalid format errors. BUT all hope is not lost on this thing, it uses a RockChip processor, and you can probably upgrade or downgrade the firmware. This is the point I'm at right now. Since a failed attempt at a firmware update can sometimes make the unit completely useless, you really need to make sure you have the right one first.
Hopefully, new firmware will make it more compatible with the videos you have, and it won't be so picky on what it plays. It will probably add the games back to the unit too... scroll through the menu icons, when you get to Navigation, look at the folder in the background, it says 'GAMES', but when you push right, it passes it and goes to Settings, so just another little bonus from finding some new (or old) firmware.

    Thanks dopeuser9,

I just returned this item to Wal-Mart today. Their new "15-day return policy" on electronics items is bogus, but if they want to play that way, then hey, no problem. If I have ANY issue with anything I buy there from now on, it gets seven days max and if I'm not 100% satisfied with it, it goes back. I've worked there for many years, so I know how to deal with them.

Thanks for the tips though, much appreciated. Have a good one.

  4. i've converted hundreds of different files so far. no major probs. after 20-30 mins on the same file it might start lagging, but i just rewind 30 seconds and it usually goes right back in sync.
Im completely happy with vid quality and dont need to tinker with it, but because its avi, dark scenes can be pixely. I was suprised how sharp/detailed the screen was. Sometimes i guess the wrong aspect ratio to use... but it converts so fast it barely matters. I was gonna try vdub or something... but theres no need.
I like this thing for video alot. i dont like it as an mp3 player though. it jumps into each song... so if you like fast music/metal/rock you always miss the first note(s) of each song. and it has no folder browse mode.
not crazy about the GUI either... but generally it works good, has lotsa space, and im keeping it.

Just not as my main mp3 player.

Thanks for the feedback, but like I said, I already returned mine. I'm glad you're having fewer issues than I did. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and just buy a refurbished Zen M 30 GB from eBay. They run just under $200 with shipping, but you get what you pay for. I've had several of these "no-name" players and the longest one has lasted is 11 months. I'm going to stick with quality from now on, even if I do have to save for a few months to be able to pay for it. I'm a patient guy (usually).
Thank you all for your support and opinions.
    Ta-Ta.
