    Hi,

I am new to this subject, please excuse me if my question been discussed before. I am trying to backup some Region 3 DVDs I brought oversea. They are original, not pirated. I used DVDFab HD Decrypter 4 (4.0.5.0), trying to backup and remove RC protection. Backup seems fine, but I could not play back the movie using Videolan VLC Media Player. It looks like RC protection still on.... The best I can describe the resulting play back screen is like small random part of the picture are viewable, but the rest are small squares...

My question is do I need to use another software to play back non Region 1 DVD after I backed up to my PC?

The DVD is Region 3 NTSC DVD-9.

    Many thanks in advance!

It's not a region code issue.

I guess the original DVD work fine in VLC?
How do you play with VLC? Select File->Open Directory and choose the VIDEO_TS folder.
Try play with something else like Media Player Classic.

No, I could not play the original DVD with VLC because my DVD drive has Region code set to 1. I am not sure if the drive could be set to region free or not. This is the reason I want to back up the DVD to my pc, hoping in the process will remove the RC protection so that I can watch the movie on my PC. Is my DVD drive Region code set to 1 has something to do with the result of the backup?

I have not tried Media Player Classic before, will give it a try. Thanks for your quick response.

I can view the backup movie on my PC using Media Player Classic, but no sound. I will try the backup process on another Region 3 DVD and see.

In regard to Media Player Classic, you might try installing AC3 Filter. That might help with the audio issue.
