I just bought a new tv two weeks ago. It is a Insignia 42" 720P Plasma TV. I was just wondering if you guys new any information on this TV. I know that this particular model is the LG 42" 720P Plasma with a different cabinet. It was $200 cheaper than the comparing LG model. The image is very clear and sound is ok as well. From what I could tell, my TV's image quality actually looked better than my uncles Sony XBR4(he paid almost $4k, and his jaw dropped when he found out how much I paid). Burn in is a slight issue with tv station logos, but my TV is only used about 3-4 hrs a day so it hasn't even reached the 100 hrs of viewing(according to CNET, most burn in takes place before 100 hrs and after isnt really an issue). Anyway, I just wanted to get some opinions on this TV and about any quality issues or problems these TVs have? Did I make a good choice? I know that LCDs last longer, but I wanted to spend less than $1000 including an upconverting dvd player, 2 HDMI cables and a wall mount. With this TV I came in $60 under budget. $800 for the TV, $60 for the DVD, $10 for the cables and $70 for the wall mount. And at that price, I figure by the time it burns out TVs will cost a fraction of what they do now. I dont pay attention to the little details in picture and I dont watch many sports, so I figured if I didnt get a 1080 TV it wouldnt be a big deal.

I believe Insignia is a Best Buy brand but according to this thread they don't get good reviews:

I read that thread before I bought the TV. I know Insignia is Best Buy's brand, however, most of thier products are manufactured by brand names. My particular TV is made by LG, which is one the biggest manufacturer of plasmas in Korea. So there really is no way to rate Insignia because some products are made by reliable brands and some aren't. So I guess what I'm really asking is what do you guys think about the LG 42"Plasma TV?

"As someone who recently used to work as a tech at BBY service, I can tell you that most of these sets were one-off deals built by manufacturers for BBY and often have no parts available for them after the sale. Some parts from LG will be replaceable in the Insignia plasma but main board and probably the logic boards will be model specific depending on exactly what PDP panel was put into the set. These will not be available from LG and quite likely, not available to BBY to purchase if you try and get them to fix the set as there were only enough of them produced to complete the model run with none left over for any sort of parts stock. Many, many Insignia sets get junked out at BBY due to parts unavailability. BBY recently turned part of their Cleveland service center into an Insignia refurb center in order to attempt to control the amount of Insignia junkout."
buying a Service Plan isn't a bad idea too -
I got a leftover Black Friday Panasonic plasma from BB for $810+tax after a 10% off coupon. Last I knew some stores still had some of them left. They don't advertise them in the store and the website doesn't have them, so you just have to call around. The model number is: TH-42PE7U.
I saw the LG right next to the Panasonic a couple of weeks ago, the LG was terrible compared to the Panasonic.
