i have recnetly bought a laptop and i want to connect it to my plasma or my lcd so when i download a film i dont have to write it to a disc. any help please?

Just connect the vga out to the vga in on your tv. Or if your laptop has a dvi or hdmi connect it to your tv.
And if you want more detailed help please give us more information about your laptop and plasma,lcd. Like what output and input connections they have. -
i have an Acer Aspire 5633 laptop. and a acoustic solutions lcd, i dont know plasma because its at other house. is it just any old vga cables i need? like these http://www.aandcaudio.co.uk/2m-VGA-Cable-2-metres-pid1935.htm
